Fellow Ulssaites and friends of the Faculty of Science,
Today, I join millions of girls around the world to celebrate this year's International day of the girl child, with the theme for this year being; "GirlForce: Unscripted and Unstoppable".
I am equally happy to note that two of my fellow cabinet executives and a few departmental President-elects in our great faculty are girls, those of whom have demystified the precedents of masculine domination in the arena of politics and leadership, and were bold enough to throw their hats into the ring as individuals seeking to pilot the affairs of our dear association next session.
The girl child is an inevitable human capital resource for development in any society. It is necessary for us to provide them with opportunities that can assist them maximize their potentials and rise to the pinnacle of their careers.
My administration is committed to giving all our female members the avenue to be a part of the decision making processes of the association, to ensure an all-inclusive participation in all of our agenda and programmes.
We shall sustain the Science Ladies Empowerment Day (SLED) which is the brain child of this current administration. With the SLED initiative, our female members would be exposed to varieties of capacity building skills that would boost their self esteem as girls, and set them on a path to financial freedom as they transition into the larger society. The ULSSA girl child is the top beneficiary of this programme. As such, we would be taking note of opinions from our girls to be informed of the best way with which we can stage this event in other that they may benefit immensely from it.
Dear ULSSA girl child, I celebrate you today!
I thank you for supporting me thus far. I am also assured that you will continue to support me and my administration to come.
God bless every ULSSA girl child
God bless Unilag
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria
