IS THERE A DEMON THEORY TO RAPE?
While surfing Nairaland like I do everyday, I came across a Headline titled “Lagos Tenant Rapes Neighbor’s 16-year-old Daughter, Commits Suicide”. After reading the story as gathered by The Punch, several people started asking a particular question that grabbed my attention. “Why do men rape?”
A particular comment caught my attention that reads thus “Some men and women rape because they are possessed by demons and are psychologically proven to be mentally deranged. While most of us lovely men are Warriors fighting and threatening these demonic spirits”.
I can see here that someone is providing a justification theory to defend rapists. I still don't understand why this kind of person hasn’t been hunted down and taken to the psychiatrist hospital. He definitely needs a medical checkup.
A Demon Theory is just a political and social conception of ideas that arise to cover the deliberate actions of evil and misguided hearts rather than facing the reality of the action.
Don’t let anyone hide under the theory of being possessed or being mentally derailed to justify his or her actions. We should sometimes leave the Devil portrayed by religion alone and face the real devil in us.
Sometimes, the demons in us are what religion should be fighting rather than shouting fire on top of mountains, valleys and hills. Let’s be guided!
